Job Description Overview: Production Supervisor
The role of the Production Supervisor is to supervise the CDP Production Team. The Production Supervisor is accountable for meeting and improving Operations Key Performance Indicators including Safety, Quality, On Time Delivery, and Labor Cost per unit. The ideal candidate must have a hands-on approach, spending more than 80% of the time participating on the floor. This person will drive a Lean Manufacturing philosophy including operator accountability and involvement, continual improvement, and elimination of waste.
Tasks description – Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Safety: 30% of position responsibility
- Provide daily direction to leads and operators to ensure product is produced safely, per standards operating procedures, 5S guidelines, and area playbooks to ensure product quality and on time delivery to customers.
- Conduct daily team meetings, reviewing safety, quality, and output metrics.
- Plan and implement daily area staffing. Reorganize staffing as necessary to keep lines balanced and output steady.
- Drive machine uptime by coordinating maintenance and repair as needed, and ensuring daily cleaning and PM programs are completed.
- Employee Development: 30% of position responsibility
- Provide regular feedback to employees with respect to work performance and accountability including anti-harassment, attendance, and privacy policies. Utilize HR performance management process as needed.
- Identify training needs and arrange needed training with Training Coordinator. All training must be documented by Training Coordinator and Training Assistants.
- Identify and acknowledge outstanding employee performance.
- Help to develop employees for future opportunities and promotions.
- Create succession plans to ensure business continuity.
- Performance to Metrics: 30% of position responsibility
- Safety:
- Dart Rate: Minimize safety accident risks by notifying CDP engineering and EHS regarding risk areas and improvement suggestions. Manage accidents and near misses per Safety team guidelines.
- Quality:
- % reprints: Monitor reprint yield. Focus and drive improvement based on highest impacts.
- % red sheets: Monitor customer quality. Drive for operational improvements as needed.
- Lead-time from Assigned to Ship status
- On Time Delivery: Monitor and drive for improvements to lead time
- To Customer Delivery Date (Internal Lead Time goal)
- To Target Ship Date (customer commitment)
- Labor cost/unit:
- Monitor and improve operator efficiency (units/person hour) at each position
- Control overtime and headcount to ensure unit cost targets are met.
- Material cost/unit: Monitor in process material scrap, taking needed actions to minimize.
- Safety:
- Continuous Improvement : 10% of position responsibility
- Identify potential process improvements and cost reduction opportunities. Work with the team to implement changes.
- Drive root cause analysis and reduce repeat process breakdowns via good communication between team and support organizations. Request updates to WI’s, PM’s and work flow based on operator feedback, observations, and results.
- Engage leads and operators to increase accountability at every level.
- Lead and participate in Kaizen events.
- Coordinate with CDP Training Coordinator to increase cross training.
Skills, Intellectual Demands and Job Requirements:
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
- 1 - 2+ years’ experience in a production Lead position.
- 1+ years’ experience in a LEAN environment
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 years’ experience managing people.
- Understanding of and Dedication to Lean Continuous Improvement and 5S/6S
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred
- Flexibility to work in a demanding environment including ability to multi-task, and reassessing priorities on a continual basis.

- Understand and dedication to Lean Principles including 5S

- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, calculate figures and amounts such as, proportions and percentages, and apply concepts of basic algebra.
- Professional language, appearance, and tone are always required.
- Expected to work 45+ hours as required by production demands. May need to work off shift or weekends.
