Job Description Overview:  Maintenance Technician

I. Position Mission

The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Technician is to maintain production machinery and equipment.  This entails hands-on troubleshooting and repair procedures. The Tech provides reactionary and emergency maintenance on shift which includes week-end and after-hours call-outs. The Technician performs routine maintenance under CG’s Preventative Maintenance Programs as well as all work orders in the Emaint system. The Maintenance Technician helps control spare parts inventories and requisitions repair parts.  The Maintenance Technician must develop a strong working knowledge of all production equipment; its operation and expertise in troubleshooting, set-up, and safety. The Technician participates in facilities maintenance and housekeeping. The Maintenance Technician must become certified in Lock Out/Tag Out and as an operator of forklifts, manlifts and tuggers.

II. Working Environment  and Physical Demands   
The Maintenance Technician works throughout the plant and grounds in the performance of their duties. The plant is climate controlled but the Maintenance Technician may be required to work in areas during periods of extreme temperatures where the work area will become uncomfortably hot or cold. This position works five 8 hour day shifts.
The work often requires reaching, bending, kneeling, and working in awkward positions.  Requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting and stretching.  Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to safely operate and work on or with tools and equipment.  Requires a normal range of hearing and vision.  Requires the ability to safely lift and load material of up to 50 lbs.  Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.  Ability to work on ladders and scissor lifts.

III. Tasks description – Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reactionary and Emergency Maintenance:  60% of position responsibility
  • Troubleshooting and repair of production equipment
  • Sense of urgency in responding to maintenance requests
  • Maintain spare equipment in a ‘plug and play’ condition
  • Expedite and requisition repair parts
  • Log issues of controlled inventory spares
  • Control and requisition maintenance supplies
  • Control hand and power tools

Preventative Maintenance:  20% of position responsibility
  • Conducting periodic inspection and preventative maintenance of all plant machinery and equipment
  • Maintain operating machinery and equipment within safety parameters

Facility Maintenance:  10% of position responsibility
  • Control and requisition janitorial supplies
  • Maintain floor machine
  • Work with Landlord in addressing any maintenance issues involving Celtic Media or shared space
  • Supervise production area cleaning crews

Other General or Administrative Duties:  10% of position responsibility
  • Assist in physical inventories and control of maintenance supplies and spare parts
  • Participate in EH&S audits and remedies
  • Manage outside contractors working in Circle lease space
  • Housekeeping and organization of maintenance area

IV. Additional Skills and Responsibilities
  • Certified Forklift, Tugger and Manlift Operator
  • Certified LOTO
  • Knowledgeable of proper Hazardous Waste handling and storage
  • Familiarity with GHST (formerly MSDS) and request data sheets as required
  • Knowledgeable of Sensaria EH&S policies, procedures and SOPs
  • Any other tasks or projects as assigned by the Maintenance Coordinator or Director of Operations, Baton Rouge.

V. Skills, Intellectual Demands and Job Requirements:
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
  • High School Diploma and technical experience
  • Completion of Secondary Technical Training (Trade Apprenticeship, Military, Vocational)
  • Associate Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Technology
 
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
  • INTELLECTUAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and electronic circuitry
  • Ability to read and work off of Blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, IPBs, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and program PLCs
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures
  • Troubleshoot operating software and hardware
  • Good Organizational Skills
  • PC proficient
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Safely work with hand, power, and specialized tools
  • Comfortably work off of ladders
  • Effectively manage time and complete tasks with minimum supervision
