Job Description Overview:  National Prepress & Creative Services Technician

Position Mission:
The National Prepress & Creative Services Technician role is integral to our National Prepress Team, tasked with overseeing those daily operations. Our National Prepress department operates in a fast-paced, multifaceted, team-oriented environment. Our goal is to harness the collective expertise of our skilled team members to efficiently produce material for printing. Responsibilities include color correcting mini bulletins, designing creative graphics for various campaigns in non-standard sizes, and conducting press checks with various clients.

Tasks description – Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and Custom Sizing: 40% of position responsibility
  • Building Odd sizes for various campaigns.
  • Able to follow an FPO (for placement only file) and S.O.P.
  • Creating layered ‘Working Files’ from client provided files, FPOs and links in order to build odd sizes.
  • Able to design bulletins from conceptions through to production.
  • Design creatives for various projects and departments.
  • Save all working files in an organized, clearly named manner.
  • Working exclusively in the Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign.
  • Using Photoshop, illustrator and Indesign in tandem.
  • Collaborating directly with Account Managers, Marketing, Sales and Clients.
  • Maintain working files consistent between National Prepress team members.
  • Must be able to make various file odd sizes with client provided files and limited resources.

File Adjustments/Processing: 40% of position responsibility
  • Creating multiple rounds of mini bulletins to ensure accurate color is achieved.
  • Applying color adjustment techniques to all client files, including built/designed creatives.
  • Open to learning new techniques improving on ability and proficiency.
  • Communicate with Account Managers and the print floor to verify optimal color output.
  • Support prepress production while balancing the needs of National Prepress and Creative Services.
Administration: 10%
  • Responsible for making mini bulletins, color adjustments to art/client files and design creatives.
  • Design creatives for various projects and departments.

Press Checks: 10% of position responsibility
  • Working directly with Sales, AMs and Clients.
  • Be open to a flexible schedule during press checks and the potential for over time.
  • Potential to accompany clients, sales, account managers to lunch during press checks.
  • Maintain proper work attire and professional appearance.
  • Make adjustments and produce minis for press checks in a timely manner.
  • Explain your color alterations with professional etiquette.
  • Be open to critique.
  • Work with Account Managers and Sales on press checks with visiting clients.
Additional Task and Responsibilities:
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Work on special projects as needed. 
Skills, Intellectual Demands and Job Requirements:
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in Graphic Design field
  • Experience with prepress/print production.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
  • Professional level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Must have proficient skills in the following software programs; Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Corel.
  • Must be able to multitask and exhibit time management skills.
  • Must have demonstrated and proven knowledge of the agency process and agency/client relationship model.

  • Must understand vague and implicit instructions and react favorably in all work situations.
  • Must be approachable and responsive to a variety of people and issues.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people.
