Summary of Position

The Shipping Technician I is responsible for packaging incoming orders of various different sizes and materials. Operates with quality and attention to detail within the four sub-departments of shipping (Small Boxing, Large Boxing, Crating, & Labeling).

Essential Responsibilities

• Packages orders with care in a timely manner for shipping
• Works with hand tools and other production machinery for various packaging needs
• Reads for understanding, and follows order forms, charts, and production procedures
• Conducts regular cleaning of the work area; returns tools and supplies to storage areas and disposes of trash properly
• Labeling and sorting packaged orders
• Restocking, building boxes, and material preparation
• Reports any errors to the Lead and/or Supervisor
• Follows all safety procedures including wearing personal protective equipment
• Loads packages onto shipping vehicles or storage locations 
• Stays focused on quality work production and limits interruptions of the workflow
• Ensures all equipment malfunctions or operational concerns are reported to the Lead or Supervisor
• Escalates any potential or actual safety issues immediately to Supervisor or Manager
• Accepts constructive feedback professionally and incorporates into work production
• Treats others with respect

Other Duties

• Responding to changes in workflow, work volume, and production as needed, including working in other departments
• Maintaining a clean and organized work area that is ready for the next shift
• Using a walkie-talkie

Requirements

Skills

• Ability to operate shrink wrap machines, strapping machines, glue machines and other equipment needed to properly pack orders
• Strong attention to detail to pack items as per procedures.
• Good judgment to know when to ask for advice from a supervisor.
• Strong focus, cannot be easily distracted
• Ability to work at different workstations
• Good sense of urgency and works well under pressure
• Basic computer knowledge

Physical Requirements 

• Stand/walk for most of an eight hour shift
• Small Boxing: Regular lifting and carrying of 5-10 lbs and up to 45 lbs
• Large Boxing: Regular lifting and carrying of 10-20 lbs and up to 65 lbs
• Ability to work in an environment with changing temperatures, exposure to outside, dust and noise
• Perform repetitive motions throughout the day
• Frequent twisting, reaching above head, bending, squatting motions
• Regularly reach stock or orders up to a height of 72”

Availability

• Must be reliable and punctual
• Ability to work overtime, including some weekends, depending on production needs of the department when required.

• $18.00 per hour
